Windows 7 The Next Microsoft OS

Windows 7 is the codename of the next operating system that is currently developed by Microsoft and scheduled to be released in two or three years. The first question that I had to answer when speaking about Windows 7 for the first time was why it was named that way. Why was it named Windows 7 ? You should first realize that this is only a codename and not the final name, a temporary name that is being used to address the new operating system.

It is called Windows 7 because it is the sevenths Microsoft operating system. Windows Vista is obviously Windows 6 then and Windows XP Windows 5.It takes no genius to come up with such a name, it remains a mystery to some why Microsoft changed the codename from Windows Vienna to Windows 7 though.

Windows 7 News are scarce at the moment. The main reason being that Microsoft does not want to hurt Windows Vista sales by feeding the press with information about the new operating system. Who would make the switch to Windows Vista if he knew that a new operating system would come out in just two years from that point on knowing that he would have to change as well if he wanted that new functionality?
