How to Show File Extensions for All File Types

By default, file name extensions for known file types are hidden. Follow this tips to see all file extensions in the Desktop and Windows Explorer:

  1. Click Start – Control Panel.
  2. Double click Folder Options menu.
  3. Click the View tab.
  4. Uncheck the Hide extensions for known file types check box.
  5. Click OK

You can disable the Windows Explorer’s ability to show the Thumbnail View.

  1. Open regedit (registry editor)
  2. Navigate to HKEY_CURRENT_USER \ Software \ Microsoft \ Windows \ CurrentVersion \ Explorer \ Advanced \
  3. Change ClassicViewState to 1
  4. Close regedit
