Download Internet Explorer 8 RC1

Microsoft just released Internet Explorer 8 Release Candidate 1 (RC 1) and it is available for download and use on Windows XP, Vista, 2003, 2008 both 32 and 64 bit operating system but not for Windows 7 beta.

Features of Internet Explorer 8 Release Candidate 1:

Home Page Hijacking and Browser Helper Objects

Internet Explorer has a way for a website to add itself to the list of favorites.  It’s a feature Microsoft added so that websites can have a button that says “Bookmark This Site!  Just Click Here!”

Now, if that’s all that particular feature did, then there wouldn’t be any malware concerns over it.  Unscrupulous programmers have taken advantage of it to create Home Page Hijackers. In a nutshell, a Home Page Hijacker is a program that reaches into your browser and changes your homepage…without your permission.  You might think, “That’s easy enough to fix, just change my homepage back and everything is fine.”

Change Internet Explorer Title

With this tweak you can customize Internet Explorer by adding your own window title.

  1. Open regedit.
  2. Navigate to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main.
  3. On the right pane, create or modify the string value name “Window Title”.
  4. Double click “Window Title” and enter the text desired In Title Bar.
  5. Close regedit.

In Regedit go to:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer

Change the value of the string “Download Directory” to the new path you want to assign as IE’s Default Download directory i.e. “C:\IEDownloads”
